PHASE I:BUILD Current through mid April ‘25

Abstract:

  • These sessions are loosely gathered from now until mid April to allow artists to come at a reduced cost or for free to help work on the boat while also bringing their practice to any extent they wish, or to come for research purposes.

What to Expect:

  • We will remain primarily in Charleston SC, a vibrant community abuzz with festivals, galleries, artists, and history. You will have a set amount of hours to work on the boat and are free to go otherwise to explore, work on your art, or enjoy life on the water. We can also plan local trips even overnighters to other locations so you can experience the vessel underway. These can be weekly sessions or longer.

Pricing:

  • Option 1 Free -18 hours of labor/week. Minimal food included

  • Option 2 $300/week -8 hours labor/week. Food on board included

  • Option 3 $1000/month -8 hours labor/week. Food on board included

PHASE II:BREAK IN Mid February to mid April ‘25

Abstract:

  • Phase II will overlap with phase I, at this point artists can come without the obligation to work aboard (beyond simple maintenance and participation as crew) and can experience localized residency sessions while focusing on their work and research.

What to Expect:

  • This is basically the same as phase I except you’ll have the freedom to design your own schedule without work hours. We can take short trips in the area but will mostly be anchored in the Ashley River.

Pricing:

  • One week $500 Food on board included

  • One Month $1700 Food on board included

PHASE III:UNDERWAY Mid April through November

Abstract:

  • Full fledged sessions, slowly moving from one port to the next as we explore the ICW and the coastline. There will be plenty of time to focus on your work as well. Also, as far as we can, we will cater to your research and what you want to accomplish.

What to Expect:

  • You will immediately be trained as a crewmember and we will provision the vessel for the weeks to come. Days underway can be long and tough, or short and sweet, but we will have a lot of time at anchor either out in the wilderness or tucked into the heart of a city.

Pricing:

  • One month sessions are $2500 per artist, food on board provided

Schedule:

Consider this when reading below: each leg of this trip has great times, hard times, and incredible experiences that are inexplicable as far as I’ve attempted to articulate them. Each leg has special encounters, each leg is a new world that you’ve never encountered this way before, each leg is entirely unique every time we transit, each leg is unforgettable.

  • Mid April thru May: Charleston SC to Norfolk VA.

    • This goes through the outer banks of North Carolina, a breathtaking wilderness of rivers, bays, canals, and little towns. This includes at least one week haul out for maintenance in Belhaven NC. This is a 1.5 month session but you get half a month free in exchange for helping with the boat during the haul.

  • June: Norfolk VA to Baltimore MD.

    • Experience the legendary Chesapeake Bay, there are plenty of towns to explore and Baltimore is amazing. Many options on this leg as there isn't a lot of distance we have to cover within the month period.

  • July: Baltimore MD to NYC.

    • This is the most diverse stretch from a nautical perspective with a wide range of scenarios. On both ends you get to engage with a major art center, which we will have plenty of time to interact with.

  • August: NYC and Long Island Sound.

    • We will enjoy the city for spell and take our time exploring the Sound. In New Haven CT there are many art connections I’ve cultivated when I lived and worked there. We will return to NYC to complete this session.

  • September: NYC to Baltimore MD.

    • Now we head back south.

  • October: Baltimore MD to Norfolk VA.

    • Beyond experiencing the Chesapeake Bay, there is an amazing sail boat show mid-October in Annapolis.

  • November: Norfolk VA back to Charleston SC

    • Back through the Outer Banks to return to Charleston for the winter.

  • December through January: Charleston SC area (no sessions)
